How to download your bank statement: step-by-step for 21 banks and apps
Updated 26 October 2026 · 9 min read
Every bank has a button that downloads your statement. Very few put it where you would look first.
You might need the file for a loan, a visa, a rental application or your taxes. Or you might just want to see where your money went last month. Either way, this guide covers 21 of the banks and payment apps people ask us about most, across India, the US and the UK. For each one you get the clicks in order and the file types on offer.
We checked every route in October 2026. Banks rename their menus more often than you would think, so if a label has changed, the closest-sounding option is almost always the right one.
India
HDFC Bank · SBI · ICICI Bank · Axis Bank · Kotak Mahindra Bank · PhonePe · Google Pay · Paytm
United States
Chase · Bank of America · Wells Fargo · Capital One · Citi · American Express · Venmo · PayPal · Cash App
Four things to know before you start
- Choose CSV or Excel when you are offered one. A PDF is fine for a landlord or a visa office. If you want to sort, total or analyse your spending, a spreadsheet file saves you hours of retyping.
- Download whole months. A statement that starts on the 17th makes every monthly average look wrong. One to six full months is enough to see real patterns.
- Expect a password on emailed PDFs. Indian banks lock most emailed statements. The email usually tells you how the password is built, often from part of your name and your date of birth.
- Use a computer for US banks. Their steps below are for the website, where the export options are fullest.
India
One thing worth knowing first: a UPI app only lists the payments you made through that app. If you use two apps, or pay by card as well, your bank statement is the only place you see everything together.
HDFC Bank
On NetBanking
- Log in with your Customer ID and password.
- Open Enquire and choose A/c Statement - Current and Previous Month.
- Select the account, the period and the format, then click View.
- Download the file. If you only see the statement on screen, use Print This Page and save it as a PDF.
In the mobile app
- Open your account and tap Statement.
- Tap Request Statement, pick the period and format, and confirm.
SBI
On OnlineSBI
- Log in and go to My Accounts → Account Statement.
- Select the account, then choose By Date (start and end dates) or By Month.
- Pick Download, choose Excel or PDF, and click Go.
In YONO
- Log in and open Accounts.
- Tap your account number to see the statement.
- Tap the passbook (download) icon. YONO saves the statement to your phone as a PDF.
The website gives you Excel; YONO gives you a PDF. If you can, use the website.
ICICI Bank
On internet banking
- Choose Personal and log in with your User ID and password, or your mobile number and OTP.
- Open Accounts → View Detailed Statement.
- Choose the period, click Proceed, and download.
In iMobile
- Tap My Account → Detailed Statement.
- Enter the period, tap Proceed, then View PDF.
Emailed ICICI statements are password-protected. The password is usually the first four letters of your name followed by your birth date and month as DDMM. Rahul, born on 15 March, would type RAHU1503. If it fails, try the letters in lower case.
Axis Bank
On internet banking
- Log in and select your account.
- Click View Detailed Statement and choose the duration.
- Pick a format and click Get Statement. The file downloads straight away.
In the Axis Mobile app
- Tap your account on the home screen.
- Choose View Statement, or Email Statement to get the file in your inbox.
Kotak Mahindra Bank (including 811)
In the Kotak app
- Log in with your CRN and MPIN.
- Go to Statement → Consolidated Statement.
- Pick the month to open it.
The app works month by month. For a longer period in one file, use the statement section of Kotak net banking.
PhonePe
- Add and verify your email address in your PhonePe profile first. PhonePe will not create a statement without it.
- Open History from the home screen.
- Tap Download Statement at the top and choose the months or the financial year.
- Tap Proceed.
Google Pay (India)
- Scroll down the home screen and tap See transaction history.
- Tap the three-dot menu at the top right, next to the search bar.
- Tap Get statement, choose the period, and tap Continue.
- Save the file, or tap Share to send it somewhere.
It only includes payments made through Google Pay, not everything in your bank account.
Paytm
- Open Balance & History.
- Tap Download UPI Statement.
- Pick a range: a month, a few months, a year, a custom range or a full financial year.
- Choose PDF or Excel and download.
Excel statements arrived in March 2025 for Paytm UPI IDs on Axis, Yes Bank, SBI and HDFC (@ptaxis, @ptyes, @ptsbi and @pthdfc). Other users get a PDF.
United States
Chase
- Sign in at chase.com and open the account.
- In the transactions section, click Download account activity. If nothing happens, pick a date range that has transactions in it first.
- Set the file type to Spreadsheet (Excel, CSV) and choose the activity range.
- Click Download.
Bank of America
- Sign in and open the account.
- Click Download.
- Pick a transaction period, or enter a custom date range.
- Choose Microsoft Excel Format as the file type and click Download Transactions.
Wells Fargo
- Sign in and click the account under Account Summary.
- Click Download Account Activity.
- Check the account, then enter a start and end date.
- Under File Format choose Comma Delimited, then click Download.
Capital One
Credit cards
- Sign in and select the card.
- Open Statements & documents and click Download transactions.
- Choose CSV, set the dates and click Export.
360 Checking and Savings
- Open the account's transaction history.
- Use the Download or Export option at the top of the list, and pick CSV and your dates.
Citi
Credit cards
- Sign in at citi.com, open the card and go to Your Activity.
- Click Filter By, set the date range and click Search.
- Click the download icon at the top right of the list, choose CSV and click Export.
For checking and savings, the same Download option sits at the top of the account activity list.
American Express
- Sign in and open Statements & Activity.
- Under your card activity, click Custom Date Range, enter the dates and click Search.
- Click Download, choose CSV, and tick the box to include all additional transaction details.
- Click Download again to save the file.
Venmo
On venmo.com
- Sign in and click Statements in the sidebar.
- Pick the month and year. To change the year, click it at the top of the list.
- Click Download CSV.
In the app
- Open Settings → Statements.
- Pick the month and year, then save the file or email it to yourself.
Statements come one month at a time, so a six-month look means six downloads.
PayPal
- Sign in at paypal.com and click Activity.
- Click the download icon.
- Under Statements choose Custom, set your dates, and set the file type to CSV.
- Leave All Transactions selected and click Download.
PayPal caps how much you can export at once, so download long histories in a few chunks.
Cash App
- Sign in at cash.app in a browser, on your phone or computer.
- Open Statements (or Activity) and choose the month or date range.
- Use the Download or Export option and pick CSV or PDF.
United Kingdom
Barclays
- Log in to Online Banking and click Show recent transactions on the account.
- Scroll to the bottom and click View all transactions.
- Set a date range and search.
- Use the export option at the bottom of the page and choose CSV.
This is for Barclays bank accounts. Barclaycard works differently.
HSBC UK
- Log on to online banking and choose the account.
- Open the search and filter option, set the date range, and search.
- Scroll to the bottom of the transaction list and click the download option.
- Choose CSV (or Excel) and continue.
The trick with HSBC is that spreadsheet downloads come from the transaction list. The Statements section only gives you PDFs.
Monzo
- In the app, tap the three dots on your card.
- Tap Bank statements and choose the date range.
- Pick PDF, CSV or QIF.
The export includes transactions in your Pots too.
Revolut
- Open Accounts, then Transactions.
- Set the filter to all transactions and choose your start and end dates.
- Tap Get statement and download it as a PDF or as a spreadsheet.
When the steps do not match your screen
- The button has moved. Search the app or site for “statement” or “download”. Most banking apps have a search bar now, and it is often quicker than the menus.
- It only goes back a few months. Some exports have a limit. Download in chunks, or ask the bank for older statements by email or at a branch.
- The PDF asks for a password. Look at the email it came with. Indian banks usually build the password from your name and date of birth, or your customer ID.
- You only have a PDF. That still works for most things, including the checkup below. A CSV is simply easier to read accurately.
Got the file? See where it went
If you downloaded your statement to finally understand where your money goes, that is exactly what we built Where Did My Money Go? for. Upload the file and we remove account and card numbers, phone numbers and emails before anything is read. In about 30 seconds you get your top places, the small payments that add up and the subscriptions you forgot about. There is no account and no bank login, and the report deletes itself after 48 hours.
